How to work on Computers

Working long hours on computers can cause eye strain.

We at Surya recommend the following tips to help reduce eye strain.

  1. Every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break. During the breaks, make sure not to do the same kind of work you were doing before; that is, if you were copying information from a report, don't take a break to read a magazine ! Look far away if the work that you are doing requires you to focus on objects near you and vice versa.
  2. Every fifteen minutes, focus on a distant object for 30 seconds to relax your  eye muscles
  3. Use a filter screen or anti glare glasses to reduce glare from your monitor
  4. Eliminate excessive glare from overhead lighting
  5. Remember to blink more often. Atleast 10-15 times a minute
  6. Use artificial tears eye drops to help keep your eyes moist
  7. Keep your computer monitor screen clean
  8. Ensure your body posture is correct
  9. See an eye specialist for professional advice if your problems still persist.
  10. An exercise called 'palming' is very relaxing to the eyes. Palming also has a beneficial, relaxing effect on your nervous system. Palming can be done by closing your eyes and gently rotating your palms over your eyes in a circular fashion.
