Concerned that watching too much TV may cause eye problems in your child’s eyes ?
Watching television for long stretches of time can leave your eyes fatigued. To avoid eyestrain with normal TV viewing, the following precautions should be observed:
- Keep a distance of atleast 8-10 feet or atleast five times the width of the television screen between TV and your eyes.
- Sitting too close to the screen might cause undue eyestrain.
- Never watch TV in a completely darkened room. The best lightning conditions consist of a back light and dim general light in the room.
- Keep your room well lighted.
- Place the TV set properly to avoid glare and reflections from lamps, windows and other bright sources.
- Keep the TV below your head level.
- Have the set at approximately eye level so as to avoid having to look up or down at the picture.
- Blink your eyes frequently.
- Use correct body posture. Avoid watching TV while lying down.
- Make sure your television set tuned properly so as to avoid bad picture quality that ultimately causes eye strain.
- Always wear spectacles/ lenses prescribed for vision correction.
Avoid staring at the screen. Briefly look away from the picture, around the room every 20 minutes or so.
